Welcome to our FPL GW20 Scout Picks blog! Wishing everyone a Happy New year and more green arrows in 2026. Our Scout Picks team picked up a score of just 32 points in FPL GW19 with most of the popular picks not firing. The Official Scout Picks did better however with 46 points.

FPL GW20 Scout Picks – Goalkeeper

Vicario takes the gloves in our GW20 Scout Selection. While the recent results have been a mixed bag for Tottenham, Thomas Frank has surely improved the team defensively. They might have just 3 clean sheets from the last 9 games but have good underlying data during this time.
Spurs Defense Stats since GW11(League Rank):
- xGC/90– 1.1 (3rd)
- Big Chances Conceded/90– 1.33 (2nd)
- Shots Conceded/90– 10.78 (3rd)
Spurs now enter a good run of fixtures where they play SUN(H), BOU(A), WHU(H), BUR(A) in the next 4 matches. Sunderland, on the other hand have lost many players due to AFCON. If you are looking to remove Raya to make funds or open up a Arsenal slot, Vicario is a good shout.

FPL GW20 Scout Picks – Defenders

Gabriel has returned from injury and made his first start since GW12. And boy, he announced his comeback in some fashion- Goal, Clean Sheet(Before he was subbed off) and 3 Bonus Points to get a 15 point haul. At the moment, he is owned by only 17% of managers which means he is still quite a differential.
Arsenal’s defensive numbers explains for itself. They don’t need any introduction as they top almost all the Defensive metrics in the league this season.
Arsenal Defense rank this season:
- xGC- 1st
- Big Chances Conceded- 1st
- Goals Conceded- 1st
- Clean Sheets- 1st
Note: Gabriel was withdrawn in the second half(GW19) after going down on the pitch, and he seemed unable to continue. However, reports suggest that it was just a cramp and the Brazilian was taken off as a precautionary measure (via ESPN Brazil correspondent Joao Castelo-Branco), so he should be available for this Gameweek.
Tarkowski is next on the list with Everton going on a good defensive run keeping 6 clean sheets from the last 9 games. Tarkowski and Everton play Brentford(H) in GW20 and the fixtures after that are also good as they play Wolves and Leeds at Home in 2 of the next 3 Gameweeks after this.

Most Clean Sheets since GW11:
- Everton- 6
- Man City- 5
- Chelsea- 4
- Liverpool- 3
- Forest- 3
- Fulham- 3
- Brighton- 3
- Palace- 3
- Spurs- 3
- Sunderland- 3
Tarkowski is a DEFCON magnet as well as he has got 207 Defensive Contributions this season- 2nd Highest among Defenders. He has got DEFCON in 13/19 matches this season with a 68% conversion rate– 3rd Highest among Defenders.
The defense is rounded up by Van Hecke with a very good home fixture vs Burnley in GW20. They are up against a Burnley side who are struggling at the moment and winless in the last 10 games- 8 losses and 2 draws. They are also ranked 16th for xG and 19th for Goals scored in this run. Van Hecke is a good enabler at just £4.5m and is also decent for DEFCON averaging 8.17 DEFCON/90.

FPL GW20 Scout Picks – Midfielders

Bukayo Saka is the first pick among Midfielders having returned in 8 out of the last 9 games. He has got 2 goals, 6 assists, 4 DEFCON points in the last 9 games but it feels like a big haul is always around the corner especially with the good underlying data. During the last 9 games, Saka is Top for Shots inside the box(23), Top for Expected Goal Involvement(5.2) among Midfielders.
Top Midfielders for xGI over the last 9 Matches:

Bournemouth are also winless over the last 10 matches- 5 draws and 5 defeats. Their poor form should also add up to Arsenal and Saka’s favour and this might well be the game for the big haul.
Phil Foden has blanked in 3 consecutive games after getting 4 Double Digit hauls in 4 games before that. But the truth to be told is that he has been unlucky in these 3 games to not get a return.

He has had 10 Shots, 6 Chances created, 1.4 xGI and 3 Big Chance Involvements in these 3 games where he hasn’t returned. Chelsea are without Caicedo for this week and the fixtures post this are also good for Foden- CHE(H), BHA(H), MUN(A), WOL(H), TOT(A).
Morgan Rogers is another player who has blanked in the last 2 games, but it is to be noted that he has played Arsenal(A) and Chelsea(A) in this time. In the 2 games before that he has 4 goals combined and two 15 pointers vs Manchester United and West Ham.

Now once again, Rogers and Villa have a good fixture run- NFO(H), CRY(A), EVE(H) in the next 3 matches. Yes, Villa’s 8 match winning streak in Premier League might be broken but Villa are only 2 points behind the 2nd placed Manchester City and are very much in the race for Top 2.
Matheus Cunha rounds up the Midfield despite Manchester United putting up an ordinary performance vs Wolves in GW19. Without Amad, Mbeumo and Fernandes, United’s attack is depleted but if they manage to score there are very good chances that it goes through Cunha. He is also likely to be on penalties with no Bruno and Mbeumo. Cunha has got 2 goals, 1 assist over the last 5 matches, but it could have been easily more. He has got a league high 27 Shots over the last 5 matches.
Cunha Attack Rank among Midfielders(Last 5 Gameweeks):
- Shots- 1st
- Shots on Target- 2nd
- Shots inside the box- 2nd
- Big Chances- 4th
- xG- 3rd
- xGI- 3rd

FPL GW20 Scout Picks – Forwards

Haaland takes up the Captaincy once again in GW20 Scout Selection team due to his remarkable consistency and the underlying data. Despite the blank in GW19 vs Sunderland, Haaland has 19 goals, 4 assists and 155 Points from 19 games. Averaging more than one goal involvement per game in Premier League is itself a crazy stat on its own.
Caicedo is also suspended for Chelsea after receiving his 5th yellow card of the season which would weaken the defense a bit. Chelsea will also be without a permanent manager for the Manchester City visit with Maresca and Chelsea parting ways.
Calvert Lewin was rested in GW19 vs Liverpool which means that he should be back in the starting line vs Manchester United at home. He came off the bench to play only 20 minutes vs Liverpool. But before that he has scored in each of the last 6 matches managing 7 goals and 52 FPL Points. During this run- DCL was Top in the League for xG, Top for Big Chances and 2nd Highest for FPL Points.
Key Stat- Calvert Lewin:
Erling Haaland. Semenyo. Thiago. Only 3 Players have scored more goals than Calvert Lewin this season.⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️ in the last six starts for DCL
Bowen rounds up the AAFPL’s GW20 Scout Team with an excellent fixture vs WOL(A). Despite all the Ekitike vs Mateta vs Pedro switching throughout the season, Jarod Bowen is the third Highest scoring forward in FPL this season with 84 Points courtesy 6 Goals and 2 Assists. He is also good for Bonus Points- In the 6 games where Bowen has scored this season, he has got 16 Bonus points out of a maximum of 18 Bonus Points. West Ham are not having a great season but there is always a very good that Bowen is involved if West Ham score. He has a 38% Goal Involvement whenever West Ham score.

Wolves have conceded 40 Goals from 19 games this season comfortably the Highest among all the teams. They also rank in bottom 5 for other defensive metrics like xGC, Big Chances Conceded and Shots conceded. Bowen is not a just a one-week punt with the fixtures looking decent for the upcoming run as well.
