FPL Gameweek 24 Transfer Tips: Two Players to Buy, Hold, & Sell

By now, most experienced FPL managers know this uncomfortable truth: the game rewards patience far more often than it rewards impulse. But knowing it and practicing it are two very different things.

Take Dorgu. Fresh off an absurd 28-point haul across three Gameweeks where he faced Man City and Arsenal, he became the most transferred-in defender this week. The bandwagon was loud, fast, and irresistible. And then — football happened. Ruled out for 10 weeks. Points chased, points lost and suddenly he is simultaneously also the most transferred-out defender this week.

Now contrast that with Emiliano Martínez. Held stubbornly by a dwindling group of managers while he scraped together just 16 points across nine Gameweeks. No noise. No dopamine hits. Just quiet suffering. Then GW23 arrived — 10 points, clean sheet, bonus — and suddenly patience paid interest.

And here’s the part that should really make you pause.

If you line up the highest scorers from last Gameweek in a neat 3-5-2:

Martínez
Nunes – Aina – Romero
Estêvão – Szoboszlai – Buendía – Ayari – Adli
Bowen – João Pedro

Except for João Pedro, not one of those players is owned by more than 10% of managers.

That’s not randomness. That’s variance colliding with herd behaviour.
And it brings us right back to the same uncomfortable lesson: FPL isn’t about reacting fastest — it’s about reacting correctly.

With that in mind, welcome to our weekly BUY–HOLD–SELL for Gameweek 24, sponsored by …. Well, nobody. We are poor, but you can help here if you want.

FPL GW24 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY

João Pedro (£7.2m) – FWD, Chelsea – 30.2% TSB

If FPL had a category called “quietly essential”, João Pedro would be sitting comfortably at the top.

While managers chased flashier forwards, Pedro kept doing the basics exceptionally well since Rosenior took over. In that period, among FWDs, Pedro is ranked:

  • 1st for Shots on Target
  • 1st for Goals Scored
  • 1st for Assists
  • 1st for Goal Involvements
  • 1st for BPS
  • 1st for Bonus Points
  • 1st for FPL points

His inclusion in last Gameweek’s highest-scoring XI wasn’t an anomaly — it was overdue correction. Chelsea’s attack looks far more coherent when he’s leading it, and crucially, his points aren’t dependent on freak goals or long shots. They come from repeatable actions.

Pedro also scored a brace in the midweek UCL game, helping Chelsea come from behind to beat Napoli and qualify for the round of 16 stage directly

At his price point, you’re not buying a ceiling play — you’re buying stability with upside, and at this stage of the season, that combination is gold. The next 4 fixtures for Chelsea also look really good.

Verdict: BUY before he becomes the “obvious” pick everyone pretends they always liked.

Enzo Fernández (£6.7m) – MID, Chelsea – 16.3% TSB

Enzo remains one of the most misunderstood assets in the game — largely because managers keep expecting him to be something he isn’t.

He’s not a hauler.
He’s not explosive.
He is, however, increasingly involved in Chelsea’s final-third actions.

As Chelsea’s structure has settled, Enzo’s role has shifted subtly but importantly:

That’s already translated into returns across recent Gameweeks, and the fixtures ahead do him no harm either.

At his price, Enzo isn’t competing with premiums — he’s competing with volatile mids who blank far more often.

If your midfield needs glue rather than fireworks, Enzo is exactly that.

Verdict: BUY for managers who want points without chaos.

FPL GW24 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD

Erling Haaland (£15.1m) – FWD, Man City – 72.7% TSB

The fact that I have to put Haaland’s name in HOLD is a surprise to me. But then, every season reaches this point with Haaland.

The blanks feel louder.
The price feels heavier.
The temptation to “do something clever” creeps in.

And almost every season, selling him at this moment turns out to be a mistake.

Haaland was also on the scoresheet in the midweek UCL game against Galatasaray, helping City qualify directly for the round of 16

Haaland hasn’t suddenly forgotten how to score. His minutes remain secure when fit, and City’s attack — even when misfiring — is still designed around him finishing moves.

Selling Haaland is rarely a tactical decision. It’s usually an emotional one.

Unless you need the funds to fix structural damage elsewhere, this is not the week to jump off the most destructive forward in the game.

Verdict: HOLD. Boring. Sensible. Usually correct.

Robin Roefs (£5.0m) – GKP, Sunderland – 13.0% TSB

Goalkeepers are where patience is tested the hardest, because their points arrive in lumps.

Roefs isn’t flashy. He doesn’t rack up double-digit hauls often. But what he offers is:

  • Secure minutes
  • Save volume
  • Occasional bonus when clean sheets land

Among GKPs, Roefs is ranked:

  • 2nd for FPL points
  • 2nd for Saves

If you’ve held him through the quieter weeks, selling now feels like quitting just before variance swings back your way because he is up against Burnley, a team ranked:

  • 20th for Shots
  • 20th for Shots on Target
  • 20th for Shots in the Box
  • 19th for xG
  • 18th for NPxG

Verdict: HOLD unless you’re on wildcard or fixing bigger fires.

Micky van de Ven (£4.6m) – DEF, Spurs – 27.6% TSB

Van de Ven is a brilliant real-life defender. Unfortunately, FPL does not reward recovery pace or positional excellence.

Spurs’ defensive volatility makes clean sheets unpredictable at best. Add ongoing fitness management (currently yellow flagged with a knock) and fixture concerns into the mix, and suddenly he’s an expensive defender relying on the least reliable route to points.

There are cheaper defenders with:

  • More attacking upside
  • More stable defensive environments
  • Better fixtures

At this stage of the season, that matters.

Verdict: SELL and reallocate funds more efficiently.

Hugo Ekitiké (£8.8m) – FWD, Liverpool – 25.0% TSB

This one hurts, because many managers bought Ekitiké at exactly the right time.

But timing cuts both ways.

Returns have slowed (5 points in the last 5 GWs), minutes are no longer iron-clad (started from bench in the last match), and Liverpool’s attacking rotation has started to bite. The underlying numbers are no longer screaming “must hold”, and at his price point, forward slots are too valuable to carry uncertainty.

This isn’t about Ekitiké being bad. It’s about recognizing when the edge is gone. Interestingly, Liverpool are winless in those last 5 matches where Ekitiké has not scored/ assisted – a stretch where they faced teams like Leeds, Fulham, Burnley and Fulham. Now Liverpool faces Newcastle and Manchester City. So I will let you calculate the probability.

Verdict: SELL before hope turns into stubbornness.
