By now, the season has crossed that invisible FPL threshold where rankings start to feel… sticky. Early chaos has settled. Bandwagons are harder to jump on. Every mistake feels amplified because there’s less time — and fewer levers — to fix it.
This is also the phase where narratives start lying to us.
“Big games are low scoring.”
“Form doesn’t matter against top teams.”
“Derbies are unpredictable.”
They sound logical. They’re usually wrong.
GW23 is loaded with emotional fixtures — Arsenal vs United, Newcastle vs Villa, Palace vs Chelsea — but FPL isn’t about emotion. It’s about patterns, roles, and probability.
So, let’s start with our BUY-HOLD-SELL article for this GW, sponsored by …. Well, nobody. We are poor, but you can help here if you want 😊

FPL Gameweek 23 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY
Enzo Fernández (£6.6m) – MID, Chelsea – 12.5% TSB
Enzo Fernández isn’t an explosive FPL asset… yet — and that’s exactly why this is the right time to buy him.
Since Chelsea’s midfield has settled structurally, Enzo has quietly become the metronome plus the final-third connector. He’s no longer stuck in deep build-up duty alone; instead, he’s arriving later, shooting more, and accumulating returns without needing a brace to justify his price.

Data from stats.allaboutfpl.com, our new free-to-use FPL Stats tool
Over the last four Gameweeks, Enzo has delivered three attacking returns. Up next is a disarrayed Crystal Palace, followed by a run that includes relegation contenders West Ham, Wolves, Leeds, and Burnley.
He won’t trend. He won’t be captained. But he’ll quietly deliver 6–9 pointers while others chase volatility.
Verdict: A low-ownership, system-driven BUY for managers looking to stabilise midfield output without sacrificing upside.

Trevoh Chalobah (£5.6m) – DEF, Chelsea – 19.2% TSB
Buying a Chelsea defender hasn’t exactly been fashionable this season — but Chalobah might be the exception hiding in plain sight.
Among defenders, Chalobah ranks:

- 1st for BPS
- 1st for Goals Scored
- 2nd for total FPL points
That combination makes Chalobah an ideal short-to-medium-term buy — capable of returning clean sheets and bonus without drama.
In a Gameweek where many managers are spending transfers chasing attackers, Chalobah represents the quiet structural fix that often pays off over multiple weeks.
Verdict: Mid-priced, nailed, and fixture-aligned. Chalobah is a BUY if you’re looking to strengthen defence without burning funds.

FPL Gameweek 23 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD
Morgan Rogers (£7.7m) – MID, Aston Villa – 31.6% TSB
Rogers is the 3rd most transferred out midfielder this week, which baffles me beyond words. When a player starts returning every single week, the instinctive FPL reaction is to ask: “Is this sustainable?”
With Morgan Rogers, the better question right now is: “Why would you sell?”
Rogers has moved beyond purple-patch territory and into system asset status. His role is secure, his minutes are reliable, and — crucially — his involvement isn’t dependent on one specific game state. Whether Villa are dominating or playing in transition, Rogers is central to how they progress the ball and attack the box.
Rogers, in the last five games, has registered only one assist, but during the period, he has had 15 shots on goal, which is the 2nd highest amongst midfielders, with only Harry Wilson registering more(17)
The Newcastle away fixture looks intimidating on paper, but it shouldn’t trigger sales. Since GW8, Newcastle has recorded only 2 Clean Sheets – only West Ham has recorded fewer.
Newcastle’s aggressive defensive line leaves space for runners from midfield — exactly the zones Rogers attacks. Even when Villa don’t control games, Rogers still finds returns through volume rather than reliance on isolated moments.
Chasing the next shiny object, here is how managers sell points they already own.
Verdict: HOLD. This isn’t the time to outthink a functioning asset.

Marc Guéhi (£5.2m) – DEF, Man City – 37.7% TSB
This is the uncomfortable kind of HOLD — not because everything looks good, but because selling now may simply does not make sense.
With Rúben Dias, Joško Gvardiol, and John Stones injured, Guéhi most likely will straight away slot in the starting XI of Man City. The icing on the cake is City’s amazing fixture at Etihad against 20th-placed Wolves.

For managers with limited transfers or greater fires elsewhere, holding Guéhi is defensible. He is now playing for title contenders who have conceded the second fewest goals and secured the second most Clean Sheets in the league (only Arsenal have fared better on both counts)
This isn’t a ringing endorsement. It’s a pragmatic pause.
Verdict: HOLD, don’t overthink, just HOLD.

FPL Gameweek 23 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL
Phil Foden (£8.6m) – MID, Man City – 26.4% TSB
Selling Phil Foden always feels uncomfortable — which is precisely why many managers hold on a week too long.
This isn’t about ability. It’s about FPL opportunity cost.
City vs Wolves is a good fixture on paper, but Guardiola’s recent usage of Foden has become increasingly volatile. His role has oscillated between central creator, wide carrier, and — at times — system filler, depending on opposition and game state. The result? Strong underlying involvement but diminishing certainty around where his points come from. Maybe that’s why Foden has blanked in 6 straight games.

Around 475K managers have transferred Foden out.
At his price point, Foden competes directly with midfielders who offer:
- Penalties
- Set-piece dominance
- Clear, repeatable routes to points
If you’re looking to redistribute funds — especially to stabilize defence or double up elsewhere — Foden is the premium sell that unlocks structure rather than chaos.
This isn’t selling because he’s bad. It’s selling because the squad can be better balanced without him. Maybe that is why he is the most sold player this week.
Verdict: SELL if it enables clarity and upgrades elsewhere. Don’t wait for the blank that forces your hand.

Nick Woltemade (£7.2m) – FWD, Newcastle – 14.4% TSB
Nick Woltemade has been a useful enabler — but usefulness and sustainability aren’t the same thing, probably the reason he is the most transferred out FWD this week.
He has been involved in a goal involvement in only 2 of his last 8 matches and only 1 in his last 5. The return of Wissa has made things more complicated, with minutes looking increasingly insecure.
Holding Woltemade now feels like squeezing value from yesterday’s information.
Verdict: SELL before minutes uncertainty turns into benchings and 1-pointers….oh wait, it already has.
