The two most transferred-out players of the previous Gameweek — Thiago and Rice — promptly reminded us why FPL is a humbling game, hauling 17 points each. Wolves finally picked up their first win of the season, instantly making at least three previously “unplayable” assets suddenly look tempting.
But the biggest headline this week has nothing to do with xG, heatmaps, or bonus points.
Manchester United have sacked Ruben Amorim.
The timing is peak United — just enough hope planted to justify a reset, just enough chaos to ensure nobody knows what comes next. For FPL managers, this creates short-term uncertainty (systems, roles, minutes) but also opportunity. New managers often mean new favourites, revived assets, and one inevitable purple patch that nobody sees coming… until it’s already gone.
So, let’s start with our BUY-HOLD-SELL article for this GW, sponsored by …. Well, nobody. We are poor, but you can help here if you want 😊

FPL GW21 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY
PS – I am assuming everyone has Haaland in their teams. If not, he is your priority buy
Bruno Guimarães (£7.1m) – MID, Newcastle – 18.2% TSB
Bruno has quietly turned consistency into returns. 20 points across the last two Gameweeks, ticking along without much noise — exactly the kind of asset managers ignore until it’s too late.
What tilts this firmly into BUY territory is the short-term fixture run: Leeds and Wolves. Both allow shots centrally, both struggle to control midfield transitions, and both concede chances in the exact zones Bruno thrives in.

(5 double-digit hauls in 10 games)
He’s not flashy. He won’t trend on deadline day. But if you’re looking for a midfielder who accumulates points through involvement rather than volatility, Bruno fits the bill perfectly.

Villa Vultures
Morgan Rogers (£7.6m) – MID, Aston Villa – 30.6% TSB
Ollie Watkins (£8.7m) – FWD, Aston Villa – 11.8% TSB
Crystal Palace since GW16:
- 0 clean sheets
- Most goals conceded in the league
A defensive unit in freefall — and Villa assets are circling.
Morgan Rogers has been the highest-scoring FPL asset since GW16, combining minutes security with relentless involvement. He’s not just returning — he’s doing it every week, which is gold at this stage of the season.
Watkins, meanwhile, has recorded the highest goal involvement of any player in that period, returning in every single match, either through goals or assists. This is consistency bordering on inevitability.
Villa are in rhythm. Palace are not. Sometimes FPL really is this simple.

FPL GW21 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD
Jurriën Timber (£6.3m) – DEF, Arsenal – 27.5% TSB
Timber is currently the most transferred-out defender of the Gameweek, which makes this the perfect moment to pause and ask why.
Among all defenders, Timber ranks:
- 1st for xGI
- 1st for xG
- 1st for Shots in the Box
- 1st for xPts
- 2nd for Shots
- 3rd for Key Passes
That’s not a fluke. That’s sustained attacking output from a defender playing in one of the league’s strongest systems.
Yes, Arsenal’s defence has had its wobbles. Yes, rotation fears exist. But selling a defender who tops almost every attacking metric feels like chasing last week’s points rather than trusting long-term value.
I would not recommend selling Timber.

Hugo Ekitiké (£9.1m) – FWD, Liverpool – 31.5% TSB
Ekitiké’s fitness concerns ahead of Arsenal have understandably triggered panic sales. Recency bias is powerful — especially when a red flag icon appears.
But strip away last Gameweek, and since GW15, among forwards, Ekitiké ranks:
- 1st for Shots
- 1st for Shots in the Box
- 1st for Goals
- 1st for Bonus
- 1st for BPS
- 1st for Goal Involvements
- 1st for xA
- 1st for total FPL points
That is elite-level output.
Even Slot mentioned something encouraging post the Fulham game on Sunday: “Hugo travelled. He felt something during the training session. Scan showed it was DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness).”
Even if he misses Arsenal, there’s a simple workaround: let your bench do its job. In GW22, Liverpool face Burnley, a team sitting in the bottom two for almost every defensive metric.
This is a classic HOLD. Selling now feels reactive. Holding feels strategic.

FPL GW21 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL
Joško Gvardiol (£6.1m) – DEF, Man City – 8.6% TSB
This one is straightforward.
Gvardiol has suffered a tibial fracture (broken shinbone) and has undergone surgery. His return timeline is unclear, and City will not rush him back.
In FPL terms: long-term injury + premium price + zero minutes = easy sell.
No upside. No debate. Move on.

Riccardo Calafiori (£5.6m) – DEF, Arsenal – 7.3% TSB
Arsenal’s injury concerns have followed them into the New Year, and Calafiori remains firmly on the wrong side of that list.
The Italian defender picked up what Mikel Arteta described as a “very awkward” injury during the warm-up ahead of the Brighton game on December 27. Since then, there’s been little concrete progress. He missed the Bournemouth win, and trusted Arsenal source AFCAMDEN suggests he’s still weeks away, with mid-January only a tentative target.
From an FPL perspective, this is problematic:
- No guaranteed return date
- No clarity on minutes
- Increasing rotation risk once fit
With fixtures piling up and bench depth becoming crucial, holding a non-playing defender is a luxury most managers can’t afford. Verdict: With better, fully fit defensive options available, Calafiori is a SELL this week. Revisit once he’s match-ready — not before.
