“Look, he’s not due to integrate back in for at least another two to three weeks, maybe more, so it’s not as if I’m getting him back quickly. I’m just saying it’s beginning to look better than it was. We’re getting closer to a point of that.”
“I think my bigger worry is he’s missed so much of the season to get back into the swing of it quickly and those things you need. But we need him back, even just to have him back in the squad would be great at the moment for the numbers. There is a plan for him and how he works โ he’s on that at the moment.” - Gueye and Ndiaye are unavailable due to AFCON.

I hope I have him at some point during this week, also back in team training. If he comes through the sessions, then he could definitely be a topic for the squad, and he could travel with us. But he is more or less the only one from the long-term injuries who could perhaps feature in this game.โ

- Bradley is doubtful after enduring an injury in the first period against Tottenham.
- Slot on Bradley: “Conor will be 50-50 [for the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on December 27]. Heโs not training with us today, not tomorrow, so Friday we will see exactly where he is [and] if he can be in the squad for the weekend.”

- Bruno is out for a while after sustaining a hamstring injury against Aston Villa last weekend.
- Amorim on Bruno post his side’s 2-1 defeat to Villa: “I think it’s soft tissue. So, it’s going to take a while. We’ll see. It is really strange. During this year, especially at this time, we have so many problems, but we have to cope with that.”
- Maguire, De Ligt, and Mainoo are out.
- Amorim on Bruno and Mainoo in his pre-Newcastle presser: “No, not for this game [they won’t be available]. They are recovering. I don’t think that it is going to take a lot of time. - 4-3-3
Newcastle United GW18 Predicted lineup:
Ramsdale
Miley – Thiaw – Schar – Hall
B.Guimaraes – Tonali – Jacob Ramsey
Jacob Murphy – Woltemade – Gordon
Newcastle United Injury News/Notes:
- Livramento is doubtful after sustaining a knee injury in GW16 and missing last weekend’s 2-2 draw against Chelsea. Lewis Miley should start in his place like he did against the Blues.
- Howe on Livramento: “It’s a difficult one because there’s quite a bit of information on Tino. We’re waiting to get full clarification but, hopefully, it’s not serious at all and he can resume training quite quickly. Before confirming that, we want to be sure it’s right. We haven’t got clarity on that but hopefully it’s good news.”
- Dan Burn is out for up to 6 weeks after suffering a broken rib and punctured lung against Sunderland in GW16.
- Sven Botman and Trippier are out.
- Howe on Botman: “Sven will be in the category of the group of players that are doing well. We hope to get him back pretty soon. When that day is, I’m not 100% sure. He hasn’t trained with the group yet, but potentially good news. We don’t think he’s too far away.”
- Nick Pope is nearing a return and could potentially be available to face Man United on Boxing Day.
- Howe on Pope: “There’s a chance [he’ll be in the squad]. He hasn’t trained yet, but we hope he might train today, so let’s see how he does.”
- Howe on Jacob Ramsey’s display against Chelsea: “That was his best game for us, against Chelsea. Athletically, very good and some of the numbers he produced in that game were elite in terms of the benchmark for midfielders, so I think that’s a great sign.”
“The challenge for JJ has been, since his injury at Leeds, where he twisted his ankle, he had momentum then and had to start all over again. I think he’s just returning to his very best levels. I think the next step for him is to start impacting in the final third with goals and assists.”

Weโve had a couple of muscle injuries over the last few weeks, and we have probably been pushing them harder and maybe risking one or two bits, but itโs always a shame when you get one of those.โ - Agbadou is away at AFCON, while Tchatchoua did not get called up to the Cameroon national team.
