Welcome to our FPL GW13 Scout Picks blog! A mixed week of FPL last week, with many managers securing huge green arrows thanks to the likes of Enzo and Minteh, and others succumbing to a less than successful Haaland captaincy…
Our Scout Picks team scored 52 points in FPL GW12, exactly the same total as the Official FPL Scout Picks’ team. That’s two draws already this season! We go into FPL GW13 7-5 in our favour.

FPL GW13 Scout Picks – Goalkeeper

Emi Martinez (5.0m) makes his debut for our Scout Picks team this week as Aston Villa welcome struggling Wolves to Villa Park on Sunday afternoon. The Argentine shot-stopper has been quietly putting together a decent season following a tricky start for the villains, and with Wolves in absolute freefall, this feels like the perfect fixture to target.
Villa’s defensive numbers have been solid this season – they’ve conceded 11 goals from 17.82 xGA, keeping the odd clean sheet along the way. More importantly, however, they’re facing a Wolves side who are still winless all season and have just 7 goals to their name in 12 matches. Wolves’ attacking output has been absolutely dire, they now rank bottom for both xG and goals scored. Even though Villa’s defensive record isn’t great, the fixture is too good to overlook! The regular candidates have tougher fixtures this week, so we’re targeting fixture above all else and selecting Martinez for FPL GW13.

FPL GW13 Scout Picks – Defenders

We’ve gone for a backline of O’Reilly (5.0m), Timber (6.3m) and Kayode (4.5m) for FPL GW13.
Timber retains his place in our team, despite the incredibly tough fixture against Chelsea away on Sunday evening. In spite of Gabriel’s injury we can’t afford to go without Arsenal defensive coverage, and Timber offers the best combination of security and attacking threat, so he keeps his spot in the team. Arsenal travel to Stamford Bridge with a six-point lead at the top of the table, coming off the back of a stunning 4-1 victory over Tottenham. Their defensive record remains exceptional – 6 goals conceded all season, 6 clean sheets, and 7.8 xGA.

Even without their star centre back, the Gunners have shown they can cope against any attack, with Timber stepping up brilliantly in recent weeks. His attacking numbers are decent, as pointed out last week, and he rewarded his FPL owners with an assist in FPL GW12 against Spurs (even if he did concede). He’s definitely the best pick for the foreseeable in light of the injury to Gabriel.
Next up we have City defender O’Reilly, who was rested in mid-week for City’s champions league game so will likely come back into the team against Leeds. Donnarumma, Haaland and Foden were some of the high profile names to miss out on the starting XI against Leverkusen; it is highly probable that all come in for this weekends game (even if it is an ‘easier’ game).

City’s defensive record has been steadily improving since their first few shaky results; Pep’s team have conceded just 4 goals in their last 6 games, keeping 3 clean sheets! They looked unsteady against Newcastle and Leverkusen, but will have far more time on and control of the ball come this weekends fixture against Leeds United in FPL GW13. Leeds on the other hand have scored just 11 goals all season, the second fewest in the league. O’Reilly offers great attacking output (over 0.3xGI/90) and is pretty nailed on for a start this weekend, so could be a bargain pick at just 5.0m!
Finally, we have Kayode. This one might raise a few eyebrows, but hear me out… Brentford face Burnley at home in FPL GW13, which is about as good a fixture as you can get defensively. Burnley are one of the worst sides in the division, ranking 14th for goals scored and 19th for xG, and have looked completely out of their depth in the Premier League. Brentford on the other hand, despite being tipped for relegation by many, are having a far better campaign!
Kayode has been one of Brentford’s most consistent defender this season, having started all of their games thus far. His CBIT/90 numbers aren’t great, but he does create a lot of chances, and is surely due a haul soon! Furthermore, against Burnley, who tend to sit quite deep, Brentford’s defenders are unlikely to rack up huge DC numbers, so it’s better to target the ‘attacking’ defenders in this one. Kayode’s 0.16xGI/90 is pretty good for a defender at his price point, and the italian full back has created 3 chances and taken 2 shots across his last three premier league games (against Newcastle, Brighton and Palace – 3 very good teams!).
The appeal of Kayode is simple – clean sheet potential against one of the worst teams in the league, and decent attacking threat. Brentford’s fixtures after this weekend get tougher, but for FPL GW13, Kayode looks like an excellent one-week punt that could haul and offers decent CS potential.

FPL GW13 Scout Picks – Midfielders

We’ve gone for a midfield quintet of Sarr (6.7m), Schade (7.0m), Foden (8.0m), Rogers (6.9m), and Saka (10.1m) for FPL GW13…
We’re sticking with Sarr despite his recent disappointing run of 5 blanks in a row… Why are we picking him again? Sarr continues to get into advanced positions, create chances, and get shots off, but he hasn’t managed to pick up many FPL points recently, why is that?

Sarr has been under performing his underlying numbers for a few weeks now, having produced 3 goals and 1 assist from 5.5xGI. Two weeks ago against Brighton he managed 2 shots and 2 chances created and was only denied some attacking returns by an acrobatic Verbruggen save! The points will come, we just need to be patient. Manchester United continue to blow very hot and cold, so we’re giving Sarr another chance to deliver this weekend when they visit Selhurst park on Sunday.
Foden makes a long awaited return to the Scout Picks team with City welcoming Leeds to the Etihad this weekend, an excellent fixture to target! Foden has been in pretty good form since coming back into the team, and, though his attacking output remains low (1G,1A), he seems to have nailed down a starting spot in the team – a precious commodity for FPL managers.
Foden’s 0.39xGI/90 is pretty good, and long term FPL players will know that when he get’s into form, the english midfielder can over perform his underlying numbers big time, delivering haul after haul to managers who buy him in at the right time. Having secured a spot in the team, and with a very attractive fixture against relegation candidates Leeds (who struggle away from home), this could be the moment where Foden explodes as an asset. A City triple up seems sensible this week, and Foden is, in our opinion, the best midfield asset from the Sky Blues.
Rogers burst into the limelight last weekend following a stunning performance against Leeds in FPL GW12, scoring twice and delivering a huge 15 points to the lucky few that owned him. 5 G/A all season is nothing special, but Rogers looks like a man in fine form, not just for Villa, but also for England! With an appealing fixture against Wolves at Home in FPL GW13, we’re hoping that Rogers can continue his inspired form into this weekend…
As mentioned, Wolves are still rock bottom and winless, and this game will have an extra edge – as Villa and Wolves are cross city rivals, the villains will be keen to make sure that they are not the first team to gift Wolves a first win of the season! Villa’s form has been steadily improving since their awful start to the campaign, and Rogers has been integral to that – he’s a great player, at a great price, in great form with a great fixture, what’s not to love!
Schade has the same number of goal involvements as Rogers (3G/2A), and has played a large part in Brentford’s success thus far this campaign. Schade’s pace, coupled with Thiago’s physicality, makes Brentford a very difficult team to play against regardless of opposition. His 0.29xG/90 and 0.13xA/90 is decent for a player at his price, and he is on track to fulfill his xG.

Schade is Brentford’s second highest goalscorer so far this season with 3 goals, and is their second most nailed attacker behind Thiago. Schade’s versatility means that he can play across the frontline and in a variety of formations – he’s started every game for the Bees thus far and doesn’t look like he’ll be dropped anytime soon! Brentford face Burnley at home, a side that are winless in three and have the second lowest xGA in the league. Burnley are low on confidence and lack a proper attacking threat in attack (their highest goalscorer has 4 goals), they’ll struggle with Brentford’s physicality and threat with set pieces as well as their directness and versatility in the final third. We’re loading up on Brentford assets and for us Schade is the best of the midfield options!
Saka completes the midfield in spite of a disappointing FPL GW12. The englishman came away empty handed from Arsenal’s 4-1 victory over Spurs last GW, with Eze securing most of the FPL points and all of the plaudits. Eze looks a great short term punt, but with Odegaard back on the bench in mid-week, he may not retain his place in the team for long. Saka, on the other hand, is as nailed as can be, something which cannot be said for Eze, Trossard or Merino, the other Arsenal midfield options touted as potential FPL assets by many.

Saka has the second best xGI/90 of any Arsenal player and the best of any midfielder, he’s nailed and has proven time and again that he can and will consistently deliver attacking returns and FPL points. The winger has 4 goal involvements in his last 6 appearances across all competitions, blanking only against Spurs and Albania (only played 28 minutes) – you can’t tell me he’s not in good form!
Arsenal have a tough fixture against Chelsea this weekend, but we’re confident that they’ll get the job done, so we’re backing Saka again considering his form, ability and position in the team.

FPL GW13 Scout Picks – Forwards

Haaland (14.9m) and Thiago (6.5m) complete the team.
Haaland retains the captaincy despite his blank in FPL GW12, having delivered 14 goals and 1 assist so far this season. City were always going to struggle against this Newcastle side that thrive in transition and give opponents not a single moment on the ball. Newcastle’s high energy style has troubled Pep in recent years, and Howe managed to get one over on his opposite number yet again in FPL GW12. Haaland was pretty unlucky not to score in the end, taking 5 shots which amounted to over 1.5xG over the course of the 90 minutes. He missed two big chances in that game, which is very unlike him, one would not expect him to repeat the trick against Leeds this weekend…
Thiago is the final player we have selected for our FPL GW13 Scout Picks team, and he joins teammates Schade and Kayode to complete the Brentford triple up. Thiago struggled with injury during his first few years at Brentford but is now showing why the Bees invested upwards of 30 million for him back in 2024. 0.81xG/90 is elite, and is only bettered by Erling Haalaand in the league this season. He’s the second highest goal scorer in the league this far with 9 goals (also behind Haaland), and is pretty much bang on his xG.

Brentford face Burnley in FPL GW13, and, though they have historically struggled against ‘weaker’ opposition, instead often taking points from bigger teams, this is still one to target. Burnley are winlness in three and sit second from bottom in the league having conceded 24 goals across the first 12 games of the campaign. Their underlying numbers suggest that they are the worst defensive side in the league, and should have conceded closer to 28 goals. The second best striker in the league versus one of the worst defenses? Yes please! Thiago is a great pick for FPL GW13.
