Top FPL GW9 Differential Picks

Reece James โ€“ Chelsea โ€“ ยฃ5.4 Defender โ€“ 5.3 % TSB

FPL GW9 Differential Picks- Reece James
  • When fit, Reece James is the most complete Full back England has to offer. With a high upside of scoring goals and assists as well as some Defensive Contributions on offer, the Chelsea Captain has many strings to his bow. Jamesโ€™ fitness is currently not a concern as he has played 90 minutes in Chelseaโ€™s last 4 Games. Plus he is also on set pieces and free kicks which makes him a complete Defender.
  • Jamesโ€™ main competition Malo Gusto is currently suspended and with James getting a full rest in midweek when Chelsea played Ajax, he should be nailed to start this Gameweek. James features in midfield sometimes as well and with Chelsea facing all 3 Promoted Clubs in the next 5 Gameweeks as well as Bottom club Wolves, there will be enough chances of Clean Sheets.
  • James already has 1 Goal and 3 Assists this season which shows he is getting back to the peak of his attacking power. He has good stats with 4 Shots on Target, 1 Big Chance, 3 Big Chances created and playing 11 key passes for his team-mates.

El Kroupi Jr. โ€“ Bournemouth โ€“ ยฃ4.5 Forward โ€“ 2.5 % TSB

FPL GW9 Differential Picks- El Kroupi Jr.
  • Talk about grabbing an opportunity with both hands (or feet). Kroupi Jr. played 75 minutes and got a brace in the absence of Evanilson. With Evanilson still injured, Kroupi should continue starting and he could add to his 3 Goals this season. Even if Evanilson returns, considering that Kroupi was the Top Scorer in Ligue 2 last season, he should continue to get a steady source of minutes for an attacking Bournemouth team.
  • Kroupiโ€™s stats look decent so far this season with 4 Shots in the Box (all on Target). He has been presented with 2 Big Chances and has got 1.41 xG. Again for those looking to Bench boost in Gameweek 9, Kroupi could be a handy 3rd Forward. Plus, Kroupi wlll get to play a Forest side who are in the Bottom 2 for Shots on Target conceded, Big Chances conceded and xGC. Could be another solid week for Kroupi in Gameweek 9.

Note: Watchout for Bournemouth’s press conference on Friday to know the extent of Evanilson injury before getting Kroup Jr. in.

Pedro Neto โ€“ Chelsea โ€“ ยฃ7.0 Midfielder โ€“ 4.7 % TSB

FPL GW9 Differential Picks- Pedro Neto
  • Neto finally got a solid FPL score this season as he got a Goal and an Assist in Gameweek 8 (12 Points). As mentioned above, Chelsea will face all 3 Promoted Clubs in the next 5 Gameweeks as well as Bottom club Wolves, which could lead to a lot of Goals for the Chelsea attack.
  • Neto has had 3 Shots on Target, 8 Shots in the Box and generated 0.79 xG this season. He fares even better for creativity with 2 Big Chances created and 13 key passes played for his team-mates and 1.69 xA generated. Wolves, Burnley and Leeds are all ranked in the Bottom 5 for most Goals conceded in the League and the defensive numbers for Burnley is the worst in the league.
  • Neto got a well deserved breather this Midweek and should start on the weekend. Also Sunderland concede the most shots from their left side (joint-second most in the league) and crosses (second most in the league), which indicates a massive weakness there and this could benefit Neto.

Kieran Trippier โ€“ Newcastle United โ€“ ยฃ5.0 Defender โ€“ 2.7 % TSB

FPL GW9 Differential Picks- Trippier
  • Newcastle are an Elite Defence this season and are only behind Arsenal in terms of Shots, Shots in the Box, Big Chances conceded, xGย  and Non Penalty xG conceded. Eddie Howe has maintained a strong defensive structure which has profited the entire Newcastle backline.
  • Newcastle face Fulham, West Ham and Brentford in the next 3 Gameweeks with all these teams ranked in the Bottom half for various attacking metrics. Add to the fact that Tripper takes set pieces and free kicks, which could do wonders against West Ham who struggle from set pieces, Trippier could be a high upside pick (after Burnโ€™s move to Left Back since Lewis Hallโ€™s injury). Trippier has also played 12 Key passes for his team-mates this season and it could be that an attacking return is imminent.

Top Defenders for Chances Created per 90 minutes this season:

  • Trippier- 2.08
  • Reece James- 1.92
  • Bueno- 1.86
  • Timber- 1.76
  • Pedro Porro- 1.70

Danny Welbeck โ€“ Brighton โ€“ ยฃ6.3 Forward โ€“ 3.3 % TSB

FPL GW9 Differential Picks- Welbeck
  • Welbeck has got 4 Goals in the last 3 Gameweeks. Although he does not start regularly for the Seagulls, his stats in limited minutes are quite good. Welbeck has registered 9 shots, 5 Shots on Target, got 6 Big Chances and scored 4 goals. He has also played 5 Key passes for his teammates this season. All this has been done in 457 minutes of football.

Welbeck Attack Rank(Per 90 Stats) among Forwards this season:

  • xGI – 3rd
  • Big Chances- 3rd
  • xG- 3rd
  • Goals Scored- 3rd
  • Welbeck now faces his old club Manchester United who are ranked in the Bottom 5 for Shots on Target conceded, 3rd bottom for Big Chances conceded and also ranked in the Bottom 5 for xG and Non Penalty xG conceded. He also loves playing against United with 6 Goals against them in recent times. With Brighton playing Leeds, Brentford and Forest after United, this could be a good hop on window for Welbeck.

Ultra Differential Pick for FPL GW9 (Under 1 % Ownership)

Luis Florentino โ€“ Burnley โ€“ ยฃ5.0 Midfielder – 0.0 % TSB

FPL GW9 Differential Picks- Florentino
  • A pick for the ones only targeting Defcon points. Florentino averages more CBIRTโ€™s per 90 minutes than any other midfielder in FPL this season. He has got Defcon in all the 4 Games he has started this season and averages 15.12 Defcon per 90, well above the Threshold of 12 required for Midfielders.

Florentino DEFCON Stats in every start this season:

  • GW5 vs NFO(H)- 18 DEFCON
  • GW6 vs MCI(A)- 12 DEFCON
  • GW7 vs AVL(A)- 12 DEFCON
  • GW8 vs LEE(H)- 16 DEFCON
  • He could be a set and forget 5th Midfielder who has a solid base of 4 points for your FPL teams and occasionally get an Assist like he did in Gameweek 8. He is a solid Bench Boost option this Gameweek.

Thatโ€™s it for Gameweek 9. We will be back with 6 More Differentials next Gameweek where we will be hoping to get some positive returns from our current selected Differentials for Gameweek 9.
