Chelsea

Chelsea GW9 Predicted formation:

  • 4-2-3-1

Chelsea GW9 Predicted lineup:

Robert Sanchez

James – Acheampong – Chalobah – Cucurella

Caicedo – Enzo

Neto – Joao Pedro – Estevao

Chelsea Team News and Notes:

  • Gusto is suspended for Saturday’s clash against Sunderland after picking up a red card against Nottingham Forest last weekend. He missed Chelsea’s midweek UCL win over Ajax as well due to illness.
  • Enzo Fernandez is back after missing the Forest win. He played against Ajax and should start against Sunderland as well.
  • Maresca on team news: “We don’t have any new injuries for the game this weekend.”
  • Maresca has provided a return date for Liam Delap, who has missed nearly 3 months of action after suffering a hamstring injury at the end of August. He won’t be available tomorrow, but is in contention for Chelsea’s Cup tie against Wolves next week.
  • Maresca on Delap: “Liam is doing very well, he took part in the session with the team for the first time yesterday. He wonโ€™t be involved in the game tomorrow but maybe he can be for the next one. The schedule [on when players can return] can change a little bit, it depends on whether they improve or not. Initially we thought he may be back for October 25 but today, as you know, is October 24. So, heโ€™s not quite on that initial schedule but heโ€™s getting closer and possibly for the cup game next week, he could be available.”
  • Maresca on Marc Guiu: “Marc is a typical No.9. He is physically strong, a box player. Again, he can improve and do many things better. We are working with him every game to try and help him. In terms of Joao Pedro, we know he can play as a No.9 or a No.10. He’s very good in both positions.”
“We have a chat with Marc two weeks ago. I told him that I didn’t like the way he was training and he needed to change. He changed. He was not training well in all the ways. Since we chat, he’s been fantastic. It’s good.”
“Absolutely, yes [he’s ready to start].”
  • Based on his comments in his presser, we could see Maresca line up with Joao Pedro as a 10, Marc Guiu starting up front, and Enzo Fernandez replacing Lavia in midfield. So be prepared for potential changes in Chelsea’s starting XI for Sunderland.
  • Palmer, Colwill, Essguo, and Badiashile are out.

The players already started with the recovery, and with the players who didn’t play and keeping them in the rhythm, they’ll do 30, 40 minutes, a little bit of ball work. It’s just about staying in the rhythm and being best prepared for Arsenal, and this is what I can promise, is that the players will be fit and ready.”

  • Moyes on Branthwaite: “Yeah, it was [disappointing to lose Branthwaite again]. We felt that we had him back, we had him back in full training and expected him to be very close [to being available] for Man City โ€“ but he just didn’t feel quite right, so we got it checked and got some work done on it. We wouldn’t put a timescale on it โ€“ we’ll give him a chance to heal and take his time.”
  • Moyes on Nathan Patterson: “Patto had a plantar fascia tear in his foot which he picked up in the Under-21s’ game against Bradford City, which is probably going to keep him out for a couple of weeks. Castagne – Cuenca – Diop – Sessegnon

Berge – Lukic

H.Wilson – King Iwobi

Jiminez

Latest Updates:

  • Lukic picked up an injury against Bournemouth and missed their Arsenal clash last weekend, while Cairney endured an issue against Arsenal. Both players have returned to fitness and are in contention against Newcastle this weekend. Lukic has started all 7 fixtures he was available for, so he should return to the starting lineup.
  • Silva on Lukic and Cairney: “Tom Cairney, nothing special [with the injury] as we expected, is going to be in contention. Saลกa Lukiฤ‡ is going to be in contention. The response from him has been very good. Top professional, top guy. He takes care of himself in a top way. He trained today again, letโ€™s see how heโ€™s going to be tomorrow.โ€
  • Tete is back in contention after returning to the squad last weekend.
  • Silva on Tete: “Starting from the back, Kenny was already involved in the last game โ€“ not 100 per cent, but he was already on the bench. He has had a good week so far and he is going to be in contention for the game.”
  • Joachim Andersen sustained a muscle injury against Arsenal and is out for the Newcastle game, joining Muniz, Robinson, and Chukwueze on the sidelines.
  • Silva on their injuries: “Joachim Andersen, as we expected and as I mentioned after the match, has a muscle injury. Itโ€™s not so serious, but he is going to be out and not available for the Newcastle match, Antonee Robinson neither, as well. Chukwueze still out, Rodrigo out.”
  • Harry Wilson is doubtful. He started last weekend against Arsenal, but was apparently playing through a knock he sustained on international duty.
  • Silva on Wilson: “About Harry Wilson, he got a knock with the national team, a small issue. He made the squad to play against Arsenal, but letโ€™s see if heโ€™s going to be ready or not. Yesterday he was not in the condition, today he didnโ€™t train as well. Letโ€™s see tomorrow how he reacts. Nothing really serious, but letโ€™s see how he is going to be tomorrow, and after I will take a decision.โ€

  • If Tonali doesn’t start, Jacob Ramsey should start in his place.
  • Howe on Jacob Ramsey: “Really pleased for JJ because the last thing you want to do is pick up an injury at a new club. He has worked hard, got back to full fitness and I have been impressed but I think the best is yet to come. It is massive for us to have players who can come in and make the team play better. That is crucial for us. We need the depth and we arguably didn’t have that two years ago and it speaks volumes to their professionalism that they came in and performed how they did.
