Best Captain Picks for World Cup Fantasy MD3

1) Lionel Messi vs Poland, Day Two

Best MD3 Captain picks ~ Messi

Lionel Messi is the standout captaincy option for yet another Matchday. He had a fantastic matchday 2 with two attacking returns (1G+1A). Poland can be a tricky fixture, but Argentina needs a result to top the group, and I don’t think Messi will get rested.

We already know he is the standout option in the Argentina attack and is likely to get involved whenever Argentina does score. He is currently the most-owned player in the game, and that holds merit for a reason.

I still won’t recommend other options over him for captaincy in the Argentina attack. I suggest you get him if you don’t own him, as he possesses excellent attacking potential. Suppose you look at other attacking options and want to do things differently. In that case, Di Maria and Martinez are potential alternatives.

2) Kylian Mbappe vs Tunisia, Day Two

Best MD3 Captain picks ~ Mbappe

An alternate option is Kylian Mbappe from France. He is the second most owned forward after Messi. Talking about his form, he got four attacking returns (3G+1A) in the tournament. In Matchday 2, he was up against the tricky Denmark side but rose to the occasion. Another scintillating display with a brace indeed has confirmed France’s position in the knockout stage.

Again, like other premium options, he will likely get rested against Tunisia. Still, given the form he is in, he will not completely sit out in Matchday 3 . Definitely worth the risk.

If you have gone with Giroud instead of Mbappe, then the former can be an option, but I prefer the in-form Mbappe pick.

3) Harry Kane vs Wales, Day One

Best MD3 Captain picks ~ Kane

Kane has been in mixed form in the tournament so far. He had a great game against Iran and, despite not scoring against them, ended with seven points, thanks to his two assists. The USA game was a very different story. He should have scored when the opportunity came but failed to capitalise. He played pretty deep at times and was not very effective.

England will hope his performances improve if they have to cement their position for the knockout stages. Despite some rumours floating around, I dont think Kane will get benched. If he is on the pitch, he will likely take penalties, which is a big bonus.

If you are looking at a slightly different route, then Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling are potential alternatives. But both are risky options as there is some rotation expected against Wales.

Wales is there for the taking, but the rotation risk makes all England options a bit risky

Alternate options – Gakpo/Depay vs Qatar, Day One

Best MD3 Captain picks ~ Gakpo

Another way to go in captaincy is to opt for one of the Netherlands’ attackers. Though it has not been that straightforward for the Dutch team in attack, they still have a favourable fixture. Qatar has conceded five goals in two games and is already out of the tournament.

If you want to play it safe, Gakpo is the one to go for captaincy. He has been Netherlands’ leading man in attack, and though he can get limited minutes in the final game, he is worth the risk. If you are okay with the risk and are looking at a differential punt, then Depay is another option

He is coming back from an injury, which is always a risk. Still, he is Netherland’s talisman going forward and should be heavily involved in most attacks.

Richarlison/Jesus (BRA) vs Cameroon, Day Four

Best MD3 Captain picks ~ Richarlison

Richarlison has been the first-choice striker for Brazil and has a good of starting the final game against Cameroon. His performance against Serbia was worth noting. He was marked out of the game in the first half but burst into life in the second with two quick-fire goals. The game against Switzerland was a different story. His touch wasn’t as sharp as in the first game, and he genuinely struggled to make an impact.

Talking about the second striker Gabriel Jesus, he has had an impactful start to his Arsenal career, contributing with his all-around game in the Arsenal attack. He did come on for Richarlison in the second half against Switzerland. With Brazil through to the knockout stage, he has a high chance of starting against Cameroon

The game against Cameroon also looks quite appealing from an attacking standpoint. The latter will play on the offensive as it is a must-win game for them. That will allow Richarlison/Jesus to get behind Cameroon’s defence and get into good goal-scoring positions

It isn’t easy to pick one of them, but hedging your bets and going with one as captain can be rewarding.
