FPL GW 34 Review & DGW 35 Plans

**6th May Article Updated with Triple Gameweek announcement**

Points: 61 points + GW rank: 465k

I am very happy with one of my largest green arrows of the season so far. It is also the first GW where I have ended up within the Top 100k (my annual target). I only fielded 10 players but this still feels like a massive victory compared to the wider FPL landscape this GW.

Johnstone topped off a great GW for me with a 7 point return despite conceding a goal (9 saves and 2 bonus)! Dunk took over from the injured Rudiger to net me 8 points (2 bonus). Coufal with his 7 points was a great end to the GW (assist and 2 bonus).

My captain Kane blanked but fortunately, I received Martinelli’s 6 points and Konsa’s 2 points off my bench for the no-shows of Trent and Salah. I did not have a sub for Fernandes missing out though. My new signing Pereira did not impress and will be removed immediately on the Wildcard this GW. I feel a little disappointed that I bottled the Fernandes to Bale move for my 1-week pre-WC punt.

I just wanted to say, great job to those who went against the high EO captaincy of Kane and opted for Son or the even more maverick Gareth Bale this GW.

My overall rank improved from 112k to 74k (34% increase).

Overall Rank going into FPL DGW 35

I am now -15 points from the Top 100k (a personal goal I strive for every season). This is the first GW where I have ended the GW within the Top 100k.

The all elusive consecutive Top 10k finish is looking impossible to achieve whilst I am 75 points behind with 4 GWs to go! Perhaps a more realistic stretch target for the season is the Top 50k (17 points behind right now).

FPL Double Gameweek 35 and Blank Gameweek 36

**6th May Update with Triple Gameweek announcement**

Please note that since I wrote the article below, news of an unprecedented Triple Gameweek for Manchester United has broken. You can see Ben Crellin’s latest Fixture Ticker here:

You can also review 3 more Wildcard drafts that I have made since this news on my Tweet here (do please still read the article and strategies below as the main discussion has stil remained the same and my thought process outlined in this article has not changed with the news:

We are already at the business end of the season with 4 GWs to go. The majority of managers have used all of their chips now. There is a handful of us with either their second WC or FH, still burning a hole in their pocket. I’ve even seen the odd BB or TC for some FPL managers.

Ben Crellin‘s initial prediction which I shared last week came to fruition as the DGW 35 and BGW 36 fixtures ended up falling exactly as he had predicted. Unfortunately, the protests at Old Trafford led to the Manchester United vs Liverpool game being postponed. This means we are now scrambling yet again, pre-GW deadline, for further clarity on how the DGW and BGW will be played out.

Initial predictions were that Liverpool would now have a DGW 35 without blanking in BGW 36 as per the first ticker from Ben below. However, as recently as today, there is reason to believe that Liverpool could have a single GW in 35 but be the only team who have DGW 36 when some other teams have a blank instead. Please see both tickers below for the two options presented to us and wait till as close as possible to the deadline for definitive news.

Some thoughts about this plus my chip strategy for the final 4 GWs and DGW 35+BGW 36

  • Last GW I used 1FT to turn Gundogan into Pereira.
  • The plan had been to use my 2nd WC in GW31 but I have limped over the line in the hopes of DGW 35 and BGW 36 becoming official.
  • I will be using my WC in GW35 to attack the final 4 GWs of the season (the draft above has £0.0m ITB and I share two more drafts further down the article).
  • When I WC, I will likely target 1-2 Everton assets as they are still fighting for a European spot in the league. I am also keen on targeting 2-3 Crystal Palace players.
  • I was originally intending on captaining Bruno Fernandes but if Liverpool does have a DGW 35 then Salah is more likely to end up with the armband pre-deadline. Zaha (if ruled fit) could be a punt for those who are chasing huge leads in their MLs. Iheanacho is another punt but less risky than Zaha at least.

I believe there isn’t a one size fits all answer for the next set of BGWs and DGWs. It will predominantly depend on if you still have your FH, BB, TC and second Wildcard handy.

Captain for FPL DGW 35

My bus team has Bruno Fernandes as the current captain but I will be waiting for some news to see if Liverpool will get their DGW in 35 or 36 before making my final decision.

Although there are some viable SGW captains such as Kane vs Leeds, I am solely interested in a DGW captain for my own team.

Outside of Manchester United and Liverpool, Iheanacho for Leicester or Zaha for Crystal Palace seems like two potential captaincy options if you want to go against the masses for high risk, high reward picks.

I’ve included the Opta Stats from Fantasy Football Hub for Bruno, Salah, Iheanacho and Zaha. In case you wanted to have a look at all four of the players, I like the most for captaincy this week.

FPL DGW 35 – Fantasy Football Hub Opta Stats

The FFH Predicted Points Tool has Bruno on 9.9 points in DGW 35 (1st highest projected points in DGW 35)

FFH Predicted Points Tool has Salah on 6.7 points in DGW 35. Please note he could also be facing WBA in a potential DGW 35 so his predicted points would be 12.9 points which is 1st for DGW 35. However I will not be captaining him this GW, if Liverpool end up with a DGW 36 of WBA and MUN instead of a DGW 35 of SOU and WBA.

The FFH Predicted Points Tool has Iheanacho on 8.9 points in DGW 35 (joint-4th highest projected points in DGW 35)

The FFH Predicted Points Tool has Zaha on 7.3 points in DGW 35 (12th highest projected points in DGW 35)

Updated Watchlist for FPL DGW 35:

(Bold names are new this week)

I will maintain an updated Watchlist in this section. I have identified players that I want to buy for my own team. I will also be listing which players are on the chopping blocks in favour of these players on the watchlist.

Goalkeepers: Guita, Mendy

Out-list: Johnstone, Areola

Defenders: Digne, Coleman, Mitchell, Shaw, Dallas

Out-list: Dunk, Rudiger, Konsa

Midfielders: Siggurdson, Rashford, Greenwood, Smith-Rowe, Eze, Zaha, Jota, Lingard

Out-list: Son, Martinelli, Pereira

Forwards: Antonio, Bamford, Wood

Out-list:

Players I’ve added/removed from my Watchlist ahead of FPL DGW 35:

Dallas: added to my watchlist as I target the final stretch of appealing fixtures for Leeds

Digne, Coleman, Shaw, Mitchell: all added to my watchlist for the WC

Zaha, Eze or both: added to my watchlist for the Crystal Palace DGW 35 and no BGW 36.

Siggurdson, Rashford, Greenwood, Smith-Rowe: added to my watchlist for the WC

Antonio – added to my watchlist for GW36, 37 as a potential Iheanacho replacement when both team’s respective fixtures turn.

Johnstone and Areola– added to my out-list as I am looking to sign Guita for the Palace DGW + a 3.9m bench fodder GK

Dunk, Rudiger, Konsa– added to my out-list for the WC

Son, Martinelli, Pereira– added to my out-list for the WC

Removed

Bale, Mahrez, Foden, Sterling: all removed from my watchlist as potential 1 week punts pre- WC 35 as I did Gundogan to Pereria instead of selling Bruno for my punt.

Maguire – removed from watchlist

Raphinha and Bamford – removed from my watchlist for now until Raphinha is passed fit and Leeds have their final run of good fixtures in a couple of GWs time

Castagne: removed from my watchlist as I look to target Everton, Palace, Leeds and Manchester United defence instead.

These are the variety of options I am going to decide between:

  1. The original WC draft further above in this article
  2. Wildcard draft #2 (see below)
  3. Wildcard draft #3 (see below)
  4. Some combination of the 3 drafts above that takes into account the latest press conference injury updates + whether Liverpool doubles in GW 35 or 36.

I am most likely to do move #1 or #4 above. I’ve included all of these options so you can my thought process. With so many options available I have paralysis of choice. I will likely have some Everton and Aston Villa assets plus be considering Crystal Palace options. Keep your eyes peeled for the final Wildcard team reveal on my Twitter account on Friday.

GW36:

  • I will likely turn one of Iheanacho or Watkins into Antonio in the final 2-3 GWs of the season (if Antonio doesn’t injure himself again before then that is).
  • I am tempted by Aguero vs Newcastle as a captaincy punt in the final weeks.
  • If Liverpool has a DGW36 then I may turn Bruno into Mane and own both Salah and Mane in that DGW.
