FPL GW11 Preview: Hot Takes, Teams and Players to watch for in GW11

What was supposed to be a Friday night deadline for FPL GW11 has now turned to a Saturday afternoon deadline with Newcastle United vs Aston Villa game being cancelled due to COVID-19 breakout at the magpies training ground. This means that we’ll have only 18 teams playing which puts a lot of FPL managers in struggle to field a full 11. In this weeks preview we talk about what to do with villa and newcastle assets, Leeds attacking numbers, Everton’s tricky fixture run, KDB resuming normal services, Bruno showing no signs of slowing down and much more in detail so fasten your seatbelt and jump right into our FPL GW11 preview.

FPL GW11 Preview:

1. What do with Aston Villa and Newcastle assets?

Obviously the most talked about topic in the last few days has been the Aston Villa vs Newcastle fixture postponement. It’s incredibly tough to decide as well considering there is little info on when the game will be played again. This has ofcourse put managers in a fix as there quite a few popular options from the two teams

Ownership percentages of Aston Villa and Newcastle assets

Grealish ~ 41%
Martinez ~ 26.5%
Watkins ~ 9.3%
Konsa ~ 9.0%
Mings ~ 12.8%
Targett ~ 2.7%
Wilson ~ 13.4%

Aston Villa attack

Since GW3 Villa have scored the most goals(19) and considering recent form the villans have had the most big chances(13), registered the highest xG(9.59) and scored the 8 goals(second highest) in the last four games with Grealish playing a key role in these attacking numbers. Super Jack is the fourth highest scoring midfielder and has recorded 5 goals and six assists which has got his owners 71 FPL points.

We would strongly suggest not to remove Grealish as he’s producing attacking numbers which is on par and in-fact better than attackers from most of the big teams and have wolves, Burnley, West Brom and Crystal Palace up next and also potentially two double game weeks.

Watkins is another curious case with the villa striker went from a potential 13 point haul to zero points in a matter of few minutes against West ham in GW10. But with plenty of budget attackers else were you can definitely consider removing him if you are a Grealish owner for the likes of Bamford or Adams.

Aston Villa Defense

As much good looking the attacking numbers are for Villa they’re defensive numbers don’t look good. Villa have so far conceded eight goals in the last four games (joint most in the league). If you own Mings/Targett/Konsa a transfer out might be a good decision. Considering a transfer out for a GK is never really a good option but if you had doubled up on Martinez/Steer then a move to remove one will help you free up an Villa attacking spot for potential double game week(s).

Callum Wilson meanwhile returned from injury to score a late goal and assist another to record 13 points on friday night which made close to 200K managers transfer him. Again this is a tough one, but if you have a good bench and fewer villa option then hold Wilson has Newcastle enjoy kinder games in the next few weeks with games against WBA, Leeds and Fulham.

2. Everton’s fading attacking numbers and an upcoming tricky fixture run

DCL FPL GW11
Time to move away from the most owned FPL asset?

Goals have dried up for Everton with the blues scoring just five goals in the last five games which is nearly 1/3 of the 14 goals which they scored in the first five games this season. Everton are also beginning a run of tough fixtures with Burnley, Chelsea, Leicester and Arsenal up next for the toffies.

Everton GW1-5 vs Everton GW6-10 Stats

Goals:14(2nd best) vs 5(16th best)
Big Chances: 16(third best) vs 7(13th best)
xG: 10.19(third best) vs 6.25 (12th best)
Big chances created: 12(2nd best) vs 5(13th best)

This doesn’t bode well for the games most owned player DCL who has ownership of 61%. DCL has scored just three goals in the last five games after scoring seven in the opening five games. Now that Digne is ruled out for sometime means the Everton attack is without an extra dimension and the crosses of Digne is very much missed by Everton and DCL.

Everton’s defense is also not doing great with the toffies conceding the most big chances(16) and second most goals(10) since GW6. It’s time to move away from the toffies assets after their game against Burnley in GW11.

3. Leeds keep attacking

Leeds and Bamford continue to attack
Leeds keep creating chances

Over the last two weeks alone Leeds have amazed 48 shots on goal accumulating an xG of 4.21 and yet have just a solitary goal to show for such attacking intent. Leeds have been very attacking since the beginning of the season having 153 shots on goal second only to Liverpool and have been under performing their xG having scored only 15 goals from an xG of 17.49 so far this season.

Bamford has been a direct beneficiary of the attacking play from bielsa’s men having accumulated the highest NPxG so far this season(6.63) and has had 12 big chances(Second most in the league) so far this season. He had been at times wasteful having scored just one goal in the last four weeks from 17 shots and seven big chances totalling to an xG of 3.20. But this shouldn’t be a concern as Leeds continue to attack and create chances every week.

Bamford has been the only player to have had atleast one shot on target and one shot in box in all 10 games so far this season. He’s also got atleast one big chance in eight games. If you don’t own him still then now is a good time to bring him into your teams.

4. KDB resumes normal services

Captain KDB in GW11?

After a slow start to the season last season’s highest scoring FPL asset was big back with a bang scoring 10 points vs Burnley from two assists. We all know on any other day that 10 could have been 20 points.

Man city now have favourable fixtures as well and this makes him pretty much a must own as he is fairly free from the pep roulette as well having been rested for the second consecutive champions league gameweek by Pep.

Over the last four weeks KDB has registered the joint most key passes and Big chances created (11 & 4) resulting in the second best xA of 2.20. KDB has also had the third most shots on goal over the last four weeks with only Bruno and Bamford taking more shots. With an ownership of just 20% KDB could be the best captain choice for GW11 as city play Fulham. It’s also to be noted that KDB loves playing at the Ethiad having scored 9 goals and 13 assists at Ethiad last season and will look to be amongst the goals and assist this weekend.

5. KDB/Bruno/Salah premium midfielder conundrum

Bruno and KDB FPL GW11 Preview
Which two premium assets to have in FPL?

The three premium midfielders are the talk of the town with KDB hitting form, Bruno casually returning double digit hauls and Salah returning from COVID with a bang. Bruno in fact is simply hard to look beyond in FPL with the Man Utd attacker scoring the most FPL points in the last four weeks(40) with four goals and two assists. His numbers are soo hard to look beyond and he should be very likely be one of the best captaincy option for GW11.

Lot of managers shipped out Salah for bruno and are now in dilemma on how to get him back as it’s hard to justify removing Bruno at the moment. The answer to this question might not be Salah after all.

Diogo Jota could very well cover the absence of a premium Liverpool attacker and help you invest in players elsewhere. The Liverpool attacker who just a few weeks back appeared in our differentials blog has quickly went on to become a key FPL asset having scored two goals and two assists in the last four games getting 28 points which is 7 PPG a very good number for an asset priced less than 7 Mil.

It’s also worth considering that wolves have also been defensively good over the last few games having conceded just three goals in the last four games with seven big chances.

Few other interesting stats ahead of GW11:

  • Man Utd and Chelsea have conceded just two big chances in the last four games.
  • Mahrez has the second most penalty box touches in the last four games.
  • Fulham have the fourth best xG over the last four games.
  • Bruno has had three big chances and created three big chances in the last two games
